Can I polish my car myself?

Yes, you can polish your car yourself with the right equipment, products and technique.

For beginners, an orbital polisher, often called a dual-action or DA polisher, is usually a more suitable option than a rotary polisher.

What do I need?

  • A suitable polishing machine.

  • Polish suited to the condition of the paintwork.

  • Polishing pads compatible with the machine and polish.

  • Clean microfibre cloths.

  • Good working lighting.

What should I bear in mind?

Always start by washing the car thoroughly and removing contamination from the paintwork.

Then work on a small test area to see how the paintwork responds.

Do not use more aggressive products or methods than necessary to achieve the desired result.

Be particularly careful around edges, creases and areas where the paint may be thinner.

Can I damage the paintwork when polishing?

Yes. Incorrect technique, unsuitable products or excessive polishing can cause damage.

A rotary polisher, for example, can generate considerable heat and normally requires more experience.

Even an orbital polisher can damage the paintwork if used incorrectly.

Tip: Start with a mild combination of polish and pad. Only increase the level of correction if needed.

After corrective polishing, it is advisable to apply paint protection.
