Can I use degreaser on the whole car?
It depends on the type of degreaser you use and the materials it is intended for.
Alkaline degreaser can often be used on much of the car’s exterior, but the concentration and dwell time need to follow the product’s instructions.
Solvent-based degreaser is usually mainly used on painted surfaces with asphalt, tar or greasy dirt, particularly the lower parts of the car.
Not all degreasers are suitable for materials such as:
Untreated aluminium.
Delicate plastic trim.
Certain rubber materials.
Wrapped or specially treated surfaces.
Certain types of paint protection.
Can degreaser damage the paintwork?
A product designed for car paintwork is normally safe to use when the manufacturer’s instructions are followed.
However, an incorrect concentration, excessive dwell time or use on hot surfaces can cause discolouration or other damage.
Some degreasers can also affect existing wax and paint protection.
Recommendation: Always check the product’s intended uses and test on a small, inconspicuous area if you are unsure.
