Do I need a DSP for my car audio system?
No, you do not always need a DSP to get good sound in your car. Many car stereos and amplifiers already have basic sound adjustment features.
A DSP (Digital Signal Processor) is particularly useful when you want greater control over the audio system and more precise sound adjustment.
A DSP can be especially useful if you want to:
Keep the factory stereo: Improve sound without replacing the car’s existing infotainment system.
Build an advanced audio system: Control several speakers and amplifiers individually.
Improve the soundstage: Use time alignment to adjust for speaker positions.
Optimise the sound: Adjust crossover filters, sound levels and equaliser (EQ) more precisely.
Build a powerful SPL system: Gain better control over the frequencies each speaker reproduces.
A DSP does not improve sound automatically. It must be installed and set up correctly to achieve the best possible results.
