How do I know which battery fits my car?
To choose the right car battery, you need to check the car’s requirements for battery type, capacity, starting current and physical dimensions.
Choosing a battery the same size as the old one is not always enough.
The most important things to check are:
Battery type: The car may require a standard lead-acid battery, EFB or AGM, for example. Cars with start/stop systems often have specific requirements.
Capacity (Ah): Indicates how much electrical charge the battery can store.
Starting current (CCA): Indicates the battery’s ability to deliver high current during a cold start.
Dimensions and mounting: The battery must fit the car’s battery compartment and be securely mounted.
Terminal layout: The positive and negative terminals must be on the correct sides.
Voltage: Most modern passenger cars use a 12 V system.
Can I choose a higher-capacity battery?
In some cases, you can choose a battery with higher capacity or starting current, but it must still be compatible with the car’s charging system and other requirements.
Some modern cars also require a new battery to be registered or coded into the car’s battery management system.
Always check the car’s owner’s manual or manufacturer’s specifications before replacing the battery.
