How should power cables and fuses be installed in the car?
When installing an amplifier, it is important to install power cables and fuses correctly. Incorrect cable routing or fuse sizing can cause voltage drop, overheating and a risk of fire.
The power cable
The power cable must be sized according to the installation’s current requirements, cable length and conductor material.
Use good-quality cables, preferably with pure copper conductors (OFC).
Route the cable so that it cannot be pinched, chafed or damaged by heat or moving parts.
Where the cable passes through sheet metal, protect it with suitable grommets.
The fuse
A fuse must be installed on the positive cable as close to the battery’s positive terminal as practically possible.
The fuse’s primary purpose is to protect the cable against overcurrent and short circuits.
It must therefore be sized according to the cable’s permitted current capacity and the installation conditions, not solely the amplifier’s stated power.
Additional fuses may be needed at branches or where the wiring changes to thinner cables.
The ground cable
The ground cable must be correctly sized and connected to a suitable ground point according to the car’s and equipment’s installation instructions.
The connection must be mechanically secure and provide good electrical contact.
Important: Never use a fuse with a higher rating than the cable and installation are designed for.
If you are unsure about cable sizing or fuse selection, we recommend contacting our customer service team or a professional installer.
