My car stereo will not switch on. What can I do?

My car stereo will not switch on. What can I do?

If your car stereo will not switch on, there are a few things you can check before we proceed with a possible service case.

1. Check the connections

Check that the stereo’s wiring harness is securely connected and no connectors are loose.

If it uses an ISO harness, we need to know which harness or adaptor you use. On some cars, permanent and ignition-switched power connections differ from the stereo’s standard wiring.

This may mean the stereo does not receive the correct power supply even though the connectors fit together.

2. Check the fuse

Check whether the stereo’s fuse is intact. Depending on the model, it may be on the back of the stereo or in the wiring harness.

Also check the relevant vehicle fuses.

Replace a blown fuse only with one of the same type and current rating. If the new fuse also blows, stop troubleshooting.

3. Check the power supply

If the stereo still will not switch on, it may not be receiving the correct supply voltage.

If you have the necessary knowledge and equipment, check that it receives correct permanent power, ignition-switched power and ground according to the manufacturer’s wiring diagram.

If unsure, we recommend help from a qualified installer.

4. Gather information for further troubleshooting

If the problem persists, we need:

  • The stereo’s brand and model.

  • The stereo’s serial number.

  • The car’s brand, model and model year.

  • Which ISO harness or adaptor you use.

  • Whether the stereo worked before or the problem began immediately at installation.

  • Whether it is completely unresponsive or shows any signs of receiving power.

  • Whether you have checked the fuses.

Please attach clear photos of the stereo connections and ISO harness, so we can see how they are wired.

Once we have this information, we can help you further and assess whether more troubleshooting or servicing is needed.
