My stereo amplifier produces no sound. What can I do?
If your stereo amplifier powers on but no sound comes from the speakers, there are several things you can check before we proceed with a possible service case.
1. Check that the correct audio source is selected
Check that the amplifier is set to the same input as the one your audio source is connected to.
For example, if you have connected a CD player to the input labelled CD, CD also needs to be selected as the audio source on the amplifier.
Also check that the connected audio source is switched on and playing audio.
2. Check the volume and audio settings
Check that the volume is set to a suitable level.
Start at a low volume and increase it carefully.
Also check that:
The mute function is not activated.
The correct speaker output is selected, such as Speaker A or Speaker B if the amplifier has this function.
Any balance control is not set all the way to one side.
Headphones are not connected if the amplifier automatically switches off its speaker outputs when headphones are used.
3. Check the speaker cables
Check that the speaker cables are securely connected to both the amplifier and speakers.
Make sure the cables are connected to the correct speaker outputs and that positive (+) and negative (−) are connected correctly.
Also check that no loose cable strands touch each other or the wrong terminal.
Always switch off the amplifier before checking or changing speaker connections.
4. Try another audio source
If you are not getting any sound, try connecting another audio source, such as a different CD player or a phone through a suitable connection.
This helps determine whether the problem is with the amplifier or the original audio source.
5. Try another signal cable and input
If the problem persists, try another signal cable.
You can also try connecting the audio source to another compatible input on the amplifier.
Note that a turntable’s PHONO input must not be used as a normal line input.
6. Check whether the amplifier displays a warning
If the amplifier displays an error code, flashing indicator or protection mode information, this can help us identify the problem.
Check the amplifier’s user manual to see what the indication means.
7. If the problem persists
If the amplifier still produces no sound, we need the following information:
The amplifier’s brand and model.
The amplifier’s serial number.
Which speakers are being used.
Which audio source is connected.
Which amplifier input is being used.
Whether the problem affects both speakers or only one.
Whether another audio source has been tested.
Whether another signal cable has been tested.
Whether another audio input has been tested.
Whether the speaker cables and speaker selection have been checked.
Whether the problem appeared suddenly or has been present since installation.
Please also attach clear photos of:
The speaker cable connections to the amplifier’s speaker outputs.
The speaker cable connections to the speakers’ terminals.
The signal cable connections to the amplifier and audio source.
The photos help us check that everything is connected correctly.
Once we have received this information, we can help you further and assess whether additional troubleshooting or service is needed.
