My subwoofer enclosure sounds poor or unusual. What can I do?

If the subwoofer enclosure plays but the sound is weak, distorted or abnormal, this may be due to the settings, installation or a problem with the subwoofer driver itself.

1. Identify what the sound is like

Try to describe what is wrong with the sound.

For example:

  • The bass is quieter than before.

  • The bass sounds distorted or produces a scraping noise.

  • There is a rattling or vibrating noise.

  • The bass plays unevenly or disappears at higher volume.

  • The bass sounds different from what you expected.

Please describe whether the problem occurs all the time or only at certain volumes or frequencies.

2. Check the amplifier’s settings

Check that the amplifier is correctly set up for the enclosure.

Settings such as Gain, LPF and Subsonic can affect how the bass plays.

Incorrect settings can cause distortion or make the enclosure perform worse than expected.

If you are unsure about the settings, send a photo of the controls.

3. Check the enclosure’s connections

Switch off the system and check that the speaker cables are securely connected.

Loose connections can cause interference or make the sound cut out temporarily.

4. Check whether anything is vibrating

If you hear a rattling or vibrating noise, it may come from the enclosure itself or from objects and panels in the car.

Check that the enclosure is stable and that no loose objects are resting against it.

Also check whether the sound appears to come from the driver or another part of the installation.

5. Check whether the driver appears damaged

If the subwoofer scrapes, crackles or produces heavily distorted sound even at low volume, this may indicate a problem with the driver.

Stop using it if you suspect the driver is damaged, to avoid making the problem worse.

Do not continue playing at high volume to test whether the fault goes away.

6. If the problem persists

If the enclosure still sounds abnormal, we need the following information:

  • The enclosure’s brand, model and serial number.

  • Which amplifier is used.

  • The impedance the enclosure is wired to.

  • Whether additional batteries are used.

  • Whether other audio equipment is installed.

  • How the problem presents itself.

  • At what volume the problem occurs.

  • Whether the enclosure worked normally previously.

  • Whether the amplifier’s settings have been checked.

Please attach clear photos of:

  • The enclosure and subwoofer driver.

  • The speaker cable connections at the enclosure.

  • The speaker cable connections at the amplifier.

  • The amplifier’s ground point.

  • The amplifier’s settings.

  • The enclosure’s serial number.

If possible, please attach a short video in which the abnormal noise can be heard, provided it can be demonstrated without risking further damage.

Once we have the information, we can help you further and assess whether additional troubleshooting or servicing is needed.
