What does single DIN mean?
Single DIN (1-DIN) is a size standard for car stereos and refers to the classic, slim stereo format. A single-DIN stereo is usually approximately 18 cm wide and 5 cm high, which is half the height of a double-DIN stereo (2-DIN).
Despite its compact format, a single-DIN stereo can offer many modern features, such as:
Bluetooth: Stream music wirelessly and make hands-free calls.
USB and AUX: Connect external audio sources.
Audio settings: Adjust the sound using an equaliser and other audio features.
Preamp outputs (RCA): Connect external amplifiers to expand the sound system.
Digital radio (DAB+): Listen to digital radio on models that support it.
The features available vary between models. There are also single-DIN stereos with fold-out or separate touchscreens that can offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Will a single-DIN stereo fit my car?
Many cars have space for a single-DIN stereo, but this does not necessarily mean it can be fitted directly. Depending on the car model, you may need a specific fascia panel, wiring harness or other installation parts for the stereo to fit and work correctly.
