What information and photos do you need to troubleshoot my car audio?
If you have problems with your car audio, we can help troubleshoot the installation and identify possible causes.
To give the most accurate advice, we need details of the equipment, its connections and the problems you experience.
The more information you send initially, the sooner we can help without asking several follow-up questions.
What information should I send?
Please prepare the following before contacting us:
Product model: The brand and model of the product that is not working as expected.
Order number: If you bought it from BRL, please include your order or receipt number.
Problem description: Explain as clearly as possible what happens.
When it occurs: Immediately when you start the system, at high volume or only at certain frequencies?
Connected equipment: List the speakers, amplifiers, subwoofer enclosures, DSP units and other products in the installation.
Wiring: Describe how the products connect to one another.
Power cables: State the cross-sectional area in mm² and whether they are copper (OFC) or copper-clad aluminium (CCA).
Settings: Describe the gain, crossovers and other relevant settings.
For a car installation, also include the car brand, model and model year.
What photos should I send?
Photos often make wiring or setting problems much easier to identify.
Please send photos of:
The whole installation: An overview showing how the equipment is mounted.
Amplifier connections: Clear photos of power, ground, remote, speaker cables and signal cables.
The ground point: Show where the ground cable connects to the chassis and how the connection is made.
Power wiring: Show cable connections, fuse holders and any distribution blocks.
Amplifier settings: Photograph gain, LPF, HPF, bass boost and other controls.
Speaker connections: Show how speakers or subwoofers are wired.
Product labels: Model numbers and other relevant product information.
If you use a DSP, also send screenshots of crossovers, channel settings and other relevant settings.
How should I describe the problem?
Try to describe exactly what you experience rather than just saying the sound is poor or the product does not work.
Useful details include:
Do the speakers sound normal at low volume but distort when it is raised?
Does the unusual sound come from one speaker or the whole system?
Does it only occur with the engine running?
Does the amplifier switch off or enter Protect mode?
Does the unusual sound occur at certain bass frequencies?
Has the problem existed since installation or started later?
Have you recently changed settings or rewired equipment?
For example, if a car audio speaker board (raggarplanka) makes unusual sounds, it is particularly helpful to know which speakers it contains, which amplifier drives them and the crossover and gain settings.
Can I send a video?
Yes. A short video can be very helpful for unusual sounds, vibrations or equipment switching off.
Try to capture both the sound and the affected equipment.
If it only occurs at a particular volume or frequency, describe this alongside the video.
Do not continue playing if the speakers sound severely distorted or the amplifier repeatedly enters Protect mode. This can cause further damage.
Do I need to send everything immediately?
No, not always.
The information needed depends on the product and problem. Start by describing the problem, listing your equipment and attaching relevant photos.
