What is the difference between alkaline degreaser and solvent-based degreaser?
Alkaline degreaser and solvent-based degreaser are both used to loosen dirt on a car, but they are designed for different types of contamination.
Alkaline degreaser is mainly intended for organic and water-based dirt, such as traffic film, road dust, insects and other everyday road grime. It is often used as a pre-wash before washing the car with shampoo.
Solvent-based degreaser is usually petroleum-based and particularly effective against oil, grease, asphalt and tar spots. It is often used on the lower parts of the car where this type of dirt accumulates.
Which should I use?
Alkaline degreaser: For everyday road grime, traffic film and insects.
Solvent-based degreaser: For asphalt, tar, oil and greasy dirt.
Both products can be used for a thorough car wash, but always follow the manufacturer’s instructions on application, dwell time and suitable surfaces.
Never allow degreaser to dry on the car.
