What is the difference between standard speakers and marine speakers?

Marine speakers are designed to withstand more demanding environments than standard speakers. They are mainly used in boats, but are also suitable for ATVs, UTVs and other vehicles where equipment may be exposed to water, moisture and dirt.

The main difference is in the materials and construction.

Marine speakers often have:

  • Water-resistant or water-repellent cones.

  • Corrosion-resistant materials and connections.

  • Designs that offer sensitive components better protection from moisture.

  • Materials suited to exposure to sunlight and UV radiation.

  • Grilles and mountings designed for outdoor environments.

Do marine speakers sound different?

Not necessarily.

Sound quality mainly depends on the speaker’s design, components and installation.

Marine speakers can deliver very good sound while being designed for environments where standard speakers could be damaged.

Are all marine speakers waterproof?

No. The level of protection varies between models.

Some are designed to withstand splashes and moisture, while others have a higher protection rating.

Always check the product specifications and installation instructions.
